Poem to Mom

It didn't always come easy for me to openly express my feelings to my mom. Oh, I told her I loved her a lot and meant it dearly. But she would be the first to agree that I was somewhat aloof at times. Over the years I found creative ways to show my true emotions, and one of them was in a poem I wrote to her about 4 years ago.

To Mom...(Happy Mother's Day)

She came not in a fanfare bold, though angels did decree:
“You will someday a mother be, with seven souls to free.
Six will grow from life within; one shall come with love;
All embraced in gentle arms and blessed from those above.”

“Seven seeds to sow and tend, seven trees to nourish,
Seven hearts uniquely beating, seven souls to flourish.
You a teacher firm and wise with lessons soft and hard;
Now a nurse to mend their wounds and heal their bodies scarred.”

“Then a soldier brave and true to shelter and defend;
At times a counselor’s ear to be with broken souls to mend;
And still a friend in later years, a dreamer all the while;
A blanket warm and comforting; a safe, familiar smile.”

“All these things and more you’ll be to those who love you best;
Forever love to seven swans you’ll cradle in your nest.”
And all these things and more was she…the angels did not lie;
Always Mom, always home, no matter where her soul may fly…

Missing you always, Mommy!
